The village with the highest attention in Konya
The architect and founder of the Village of Eternal Gratitude (Sonsuz Şükran Köyü) where artists live in their natural adobe houses in Konya/Beyşehir, Mehmet Taşdiken has said that the village has become to a place that raises a lot of attention, both nationally and internationally.
Taşdiken added that despite of the difficult transport connection of the village which is located in a remote area, said that the project has already reached its goals of being a lively place that fosters intercultural understanding and artistic and cultural activities.
Taşdiken told that despite the fact that artists who travel from Istanbul and other national and international locations have to change many vehicles, the village has become a place of meetings and events not only in summer but also in winter. He added that this newly created artist village has become a place to live. Taşdiken also said that still some time and effort has to be put in the project in order to reach the format that he has envisioned:
“Some things we have to see more objectively. At the moment, there are 30 people living in their houses. They come and go. In winter, they arrange meetings and events. On our general holidays and celebrations and during the whole year, events and activities take place. This year, both Bahçeşehir and Selçuk University participated in our festival. Artists and cultural actors from abroad and also Turkish Painters, Sculpturors and other creative actors show a lot of engagement and interest in our village project. For example, this year, we have hosted and cooperated with a very important project in which German, Austrian and Hungarian artists participated. The EU-Turkey Tandem cooperation project “Local Heroes” that was from our part managed by our international project coordinators Zehra Wellmann and Hakan Çetinyilmaz. We have recorded the Soundscape of this area and added it to the “Soundsslike” Map of Koç University, that maps sounds from Turkey and all over the world. We have also made a aereal video of our village that will be published on our website soon.”
